CAC stands for Customer Advisroy Council. It is a group of people who wants to participate in a closer way to the development of IDS.
Well, I wished you could be with us, as it is really exciting to discover what is going to be added to the next version of IDS.
We learnt quite a bit. Our host was IIUG's close friend, Cindy Fung.
On the application development, the tools team presented pureQuery , also known as JLink. There is also an article about pureQuery in DB2 Mag.
There are many improvements getting in. As an application developer, I think Cheetah 2 is even more impressive than Cheetah 1. Fields of improvement include every area. I also wish I could talk about them more freely. What I liked most is serious efforts in the DRDA space. This is not a big secret. DRDA support has been part of the new Common Client API.
What is the Common Client API anyway? It is the next generation of client connectivity, what we, the application developers, use to connect and get the data that, you, the DBAs, manage. Having it common to all databases, means that one client connects to all databases (well, all IBM databases). What are our benefits? This means less stuff to deploy, more features, more tools, better support of new language features, new languages, etc.
Watch out for more new stuff on replication, performance, Java development, .net development, tools and much, much more... Cheetah2 will be as exciting as Cheetah1, and even more for application developers / ISV like me...
