DB2 9 DBA Exam Sample Questions: Disabling the Task Center and understanding CREATE TABLESPACE options
Posted by Roger Sanders @ 12:50 PM ET | Nov 29, 2007

The DB2 database administration exam can be a challenge, even to experienced DBAs. Practicing in advance, with sample questions that resemble the kinds of questions on the actual exam, is one of the best ways I know of to prepare. Each week, I'll be posting two new sample questions and their detailed answers. The questions come from the book DB2 9 for Linux, UNIX, and Windows Database Administration: Certification Study Guide, published by MC Press, and are reprinted here with permission.

Try your hand at these, and come back each week for more. You can also find DB2 9 Fundamentals exam sample questions in the archives.

QUESTION 1
A database administrator wants to temporarily disable the Task Center. Which of the following can be used to achieve this objective?

A. Assign the value OFF to the SCHED_ENABLE registry variable
B. Assign the value OFF to the SCHED_ENABLE parameter in the DB2 Database Manager configuration
C. Assign the value OFF to the SCHED_ENABLE parameter in the database con-figuration for the TOOLSDB database
D. Assign the value OFF to the SCHED_ENABLE parameter in the DAS (ADMIN) configuration

QUESTION 2
Which of the following options can be specified with the CREATE TABLESPACE state-ment to create a DMS table space that can automatically expand beyond its original storage definition?

A. AUTORESIZE YES
B. RESIZE YES
C. EXTEND YES
D. EXPAND YES

Answers

QUESTION 1
The correct answer is D. To a certain extent, the behavior of the task center is controlled through parameters found in the DAS instance configuration file. The SCHED_ENABLE DAS configuration parameter is used to identify whether or not the Scheduler is running. The Scheduler allows tools such as the Task Center to schedule and execute tasks at the ad-ministration server. Therefore, setting the SCHED_ENABLE parameter to OFF temporarily disables the Task Center.

QUESTION 2

The correct answer is A. DMS table spaces are made up of file containers or raw device con-tainers, and their sizes are set when the containers are assigned to the table space. A table space is considered full when all of the space within the containers has been used. However, with DMS table spaces, you can add or extend containers using the ALTER TABLESPACE statement to provide more storage space to a given table space.
DMS table spaces also have a feature called "auto-resize". As space is consumed in a DMS table space that can be automatically resized, the DB2 Database Manager can auto-matically extend one or more file containers associated with the table space. (SMS table spaces have similar capabilities for growing automatically but the term "auto-resize" is used exclusively for DMS.) The auto-resize feature of a DMS table space is enabled by specifying the AUTORESIZE YES option with the CREATE TABLESPACE statement that is used to create the table space. For example, the following CREATE TABLESPACE statement could be used to create an auto-resize DMS table space:

CREATE TABLESPACE tbsp1 MANAGED BY DATABASE
USING (FILE '/db2files/data1.dat' 10 M) AUTORESIZE YES

You can also enable the auto-resize feature after a DMS table space has been created by executing the ALTER TABLESPACE statement with the AUTORESIZE YES option specified. For example:

ALTER TABLESPACE tbsp1 AUTORESIZE YES
