Did you catch the 21 April 2008 IBM Flash Alert? Since not everyone subscribes to IBM alerts, I thought it prudent to bring your attention to new fixpacks here. It seems IBM acted reasonably swiftly and appropriately to create these new fixpacks for V8, V9, and V9.5, which address the documented vulnerabilities.
Frankly, I find IBM's security track record and timely response to be impressive. I receive weekly automatic updates for security vulnerabilities from my operating system vendor, and almost monthly security flashes and patches from another database vendor. In 15 years of working with DB2 on distributed platforms, this is the first security vulnerability flash of its kind from IBM that I can remember.
Well, as Albert Einstein said, "Memory is deceptive because it is colored by today's events." My other disclaimer is that I'm 46 and often can't remember where I left my car keys.
A Brief Shameless Marketing Moment
After learning about the availability of these new fixpacks, DBI acted quickly to verify that its Brother-Panther™, Brother-Thoroughbred™, Brother-Eagle™, and Brother-WatchDog® tools for DB2 LUW were compatible with these important fixpacks. We're ready when you are.
Cheers,
Scott
