1. ASKED AND ANSWERED

* When to Use MQTs
After attending a seminar on DB2 Cube Views, one DB2 Magazine reader was left with a lingering question: How do you determine whether to use a materialized query table (MQT) with DB2 Cube Views or DB2 OLAP Server for a particular analytic need? It's not an either/or proposition, explains DB2 DBA Robert Catterall. Find out why not.

2. IBM NEWS

* Stand Up and Let DB2 Be Counted
Research and consulting firm Winter Corp. is seeking out the world's biggest databases. The company is collecting data for its 2005 TopTen Program until July 15 (award recipients are announced September 8).
Any database with a minimum of 1TB of data (excluding free space and
redundancy) is eligible. Respondents complete a short questionnaire on current and projected database size and workload, DBMS type, server and storage environments, database and system architectures, and project benefits and obstacles. Find out how to participate.

* Cognos Taps WebSphere II's Access
IBM partner Cognos reached out to WebSphere Information Integrator
(II) to extend the reach of its latest release of Cognos ReportNet.
Enhanced support for IBM WebSphere II means customers can now access diverse data sources including mainframe, database, and content systems. An online resource center contains links to Webcasts and other free learning resources.

Answer correctly to enter a drawing for five DB2 books from IBM Press.
(Congratulations to T. Khoury of Burr Ridge, IL, last month's winner of a $100 American Express Gift Cheque.)
