We're upgrading from V4R4 to V5R1 of the operating system. We currently use triggers but wonder if there are any major concerns with triggers on V5R1.

There aren't many concerns. Susan Ganter and John Paris put together a nice article on this in the eServer iSeries magazine. They prescribe the ideal method for handling system triggers should you have fields in your tables that support LOBs. Otherwise, you should be okay.
