IBM Database Magazine covers IBM information management software (including DB2, Informix, U2, Cloudscape, and related offerings and tools). Targeted to IT managers and database administrators, analysts, programmers, designers, consultants, and MIS/DP managers, IBM Database Magazine covers a range of topics on a quarterly basis.

IBM Database Magazine 's practical, user-driven articles are written by experts in the field - people like you. That way, the material is topical, accurate, and practical.

ARTICLE TYPES

We accept many different types of articles, including "how to" articles, explanations of technology, industry reports, case studies, and so forth.

  • "How to" articles explain, step-by-step, how to solve a problem using a product, procedure, technology, or methodology, describing the do's and don'ts involved with implementation.
  • Explanations of technology should describe new, different, or difficult solutions (such as distributed or object-relational database).
  • A case study might focus on how your shop has implemented a new database or information systems strategy, focusing on the challenges and advantages of the new environment.

GETTING STARTED ON AN ARTICLE

We ask that you first prepare a one- to two-page abstract, outline, or summary of your proposed article idea and e-mail it to Kim Moutsos at kmoutsos@cmp.com .

PREPARING YOUR MANUSCRIPT FOR PUBLICATION

If your article idea is accepted, it's time for you to start writing. Article lengths may range from 1,500 to 3,500 words. All articles should include any cited references and any needed tables, code fragments, figures, graphs, or screen shots (including appropriate captions). Please be sure to include a short biographical paragraph. We do not need artwork; however, if you have an idea for the artwork, feel free to mention it in a cover letter. Also be sure to include a working title for your article.

Your article will undergo editing for content, form, and style, and will then be returned to you via email for a final error check. Your job will be to check these proofs for factual errors and any mistakes that might have crept in during editing and transmission, as well as answer any questions the editors may have.

THE FINE PRINT

IBM Database Magazine offers payment (our standard rate is $85 per magazine page) to for all articles that run in the print edition of the magazine. At the time you call in your galley corrections, we ask that you provide your social security or tax-ID number so we may process your payment.

IBM Database Magazine routinely purchases all rights to articles, which means that the editors reserve the right to reprint or republish the work at a later date.

IBM Database Magazine reserves the right to reject an article at any time, even after it's been initially accepted. If we reject an article that we had formerly accepted, we will pay a "kill" fee of half the rate promised for the article.
